Hello,

I recently just bought a Fx-8120 along with a M5A97 motherboard by Asus.

I have a external Hard drive that is USB 3.0 compatible. But for some reason the disk did not install it correctly. So a week has gone by and i have had no problems what so ever. I decide i want to see the difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, so i go to Asus homepage and go to M5A97 sub category where i see they have USB 3.0 driver.

So i download and installed it. During the install my computer froze, so i restarted and tried to install again. But the freezing kept happening. I looked in the control panel where i noticed that some of the program was installed. So i uninstalled what was left of the program.

Once again i tried to install the drivers and it worked successfully. I noticed a huge difference with the USB 3.0. Also i went to device manager to see if the yellow question mark had left. It would lock me up there every time.

I am a gamer, i play Star Wars: The Old Republic, When im playing the game or doing anything else it will randomly freeze. It locks up my computer where it takes 2 minutes for Ctrl Alt Delete window to appear.

I myself just reformatted my computer to see if the problem will go away, so far it is looking so good.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what is going on. If there is a way for me to get my USB 3.0 drivers to work without my computer freezing or locking up.

First off i hope this all makes sense and i thank you in advance for any insight any of you may have.

I bet it is because you were using USB 2 and tried to switch to USB 3. Not sure exactly, but I would re-install everything again and then get those drivers from the get go. If i still doesn't work, I don't know. If the drive is USB 3 and so are the ports, then it should just work.
