Hi: I just built a new computer using a fairly popular ASUS motherboard (M5A99FX Pro R2.0) in a Rosewill Challenger U3 case. I can not get the front usb port to be recognize with either a USB 2.0 or native USB 3.0 flash drive. The rear ports recognize these devices with no problem. Below is what I did to troubleshoot the problem.
1- Checked the USB 3.0 connections to the mother board and the front case. The connections appear secure, however, the USB 3.0 (blue cable) is fairly large and I am wondering if it is seated correctly. I did push fairly hard, but obviously do not want to exert too much force.
2- I updated the Bi0S to the latest version 2501 from 2103. The Asus website indicated that the latest version corrected some USB compatibility issues.
3- I checked the bios settings. The front usb ports are enabled and legacy 2.0/3.0 support is enabled. These were the default settings.
4- The USB device drive appear up to date, but I was not certain how to verify that the device drive also support USB 3.0.
5- I purchased a native USB 3.0 device to test the ports. This device was not recognized in the front ports, but worked fine in the rear usb 3.0 port.
Any thoughts on what I could do further? Anyway to test that the port on the motherboard is correctly working? I guess it could be a bad cable as well?
This stuff can be very frustrating, so I appreciate any help.
