MAC address spoofing network adapter

Is there a pluggable (probably USB) network adapter that is designed in such a way that it doesn't have limitations in MAC address spoofing?

I was just curious since people say that most network adapters have their mac addresses burned to the chip.
But other than that, I'm not planning to buy or obtain one for two reasons:
1. pretty much every wifi connections in my city are open
2. I'm broke

They ALL do. However, that can be overridden if the OS allows.

Oh, I see. Thanks for the info. I guess it's a pain in the <mod edit> for people who spoof MAC addresses then.
