Mac was working fine. What I was trying to do was burn a dmg file to my flash drive, and it was copying the file contents and everything, but then I got the pinwhell that just kept spinning. It went on for a while and locked the system, so I was unable to do anything. I hard powered off the computer, and then the Mac wouldn't reach into the os. It just gets to the apple logo screen and spins, but stays there forever.

It's a powerbook g4 with 10.3. Pretty old I know and it doesn't help that I'm not a mac person. I went online and saw some boot options like holding the shift key, command key + r, and option key. Shift key just shows me the apple logo and does nothing. Command + r doesn't work; I don't think I have a recovery partition. The option just shows me my hard drive.

You will have to put in your Mac OSX install disk and then click the option key and boot into that. You should be able to repair it that way (Thats if its a software fault).
