Short answer: you can't.

Long answer: Apple allows people to purchase/download Mac OS X in 1 of 2 ways:
-- buying a new Mac (desktop or laptop)
-- upgrading an existing Mac with a newer version of OS X than what it currently has.

They do *not* sell it or make it available for download for use on anything other than Apple-certified hardware, & those are only available from the Apple Store or from approved vendors.

Actually you can. This forum is even filled with it and even has a sticky. When you buy mac you can get a usb or cd version or if you download it, you can make your own usb or cd. Who's to stop you from plugging it in a pc? Just google hackintosh. You can also loan your game CDs out to all of your friends & have them install No-CD patches so that they can play the games without paying the publisher. Doesn't mean that it's something that, for example, the Tom's Hardware site approves of.

Personally, if I really thought that OS X was that superior to any other OS out there, I'd just pony up the extra cash & buy a real Mac in the first place. That way, if something goes wrong with it I can contact Tech Support for assistance. If I'm just looking for a super-cheap/free OS for my hardware instead of Windows, there are a myriad of Linux & BSD-based distros out there that can be used.

That's not a good analogy. Apple get their money when you purchase a copy of their OS, and it's not a criminal offence to install it on any hardware. It may, or may not, be a breach of contract to do so - in that case Apple may, or may not, take action against you.

Whilst it is the duty of these forums to uphold the law, it's not their duty to enforce Apple's contracts.

While it is technically against the eula, it's similar to jailbreaking in that it goes into a legal grey area when end users do it for personal use. Apple is protected from commercial circumvention which they had already sued a company for and won.

Tom's has a hackintosh sticky, so what does that mean? It also has plenty of threads and doesn't stop people like other illegal activities. It even has news articles of compatible hardware/laptops for hackintoshes which are linked by tom's employees.
