I have an old A1181 Macbook Core 2 Duo Running El Capitan with 2gb of Ram.

When my macbook dies, and sometimes even after a proper shutdown, It doesn't boot successfully on the first try. It turns on and immediately shuts off without even turning on the LCD. But when I press the power button a second time, it boots perfectly fine. To me this points to a broken capacitor on the logic board that isn't building a charge properly.

Also, the battery is very iffy. If I put any stress on it (Usually happens while streaming steam games from my Desktop) as soon as it starts to get below 30 or 20 percent, it will report that it is running on reserve battery, and will shut down seconds after. But if Im just doing schoolwork or browsing the web it goes until 1%.

I just want to know if I should be worried and if I can fix either of these issues.

Thank you so much!

the battery, if it is not holding charge anymore, can be replaced but if problem persists with the new one, it wasn't the battery, it was the charger or the mainboard

if the mainboard is giving you this problem and, the other thing you say about capacitors, well, on a mainboard like this one, change a solid state capacitor is a pita and can only be made with special tools in a lab, this means a expensive repair

i just checked a picture of that mainboard and only sow one solid state capacitor and also saw that you can't change cpu, it is soldered so nothing more than add ram is viable on this machine

sounds more easy to get a new mainboard and put more ram on it, 2 gbs on a macbook this days means that it is a just a web broser type...

anyway, it is a 11 year old mac, not sure if is viable when talking about performance and costos of the repair, the battery and the maibnard, fix or replacement plus more ram
