Macbook air 1 screen black and repeating tone

Hello, My MAcBook Air 1 Will not wake from sleep mode. The screen remains black, and there is a repeating "beeping" tone. I can shut it down completely by holding the power button down, but the same problem occurs when I try to turn it back on (even after giving it time to charge. Thanks in advance for your help.

I had this happen on my MacBook Air - black screen and repeated beeping, no matter what I did. Thought it was all over red rover. But it was a couple of days before I could get to the Mac Store (I was overseas) and so I let it run down completely, then recharged it and it magically started again, having completely resisted anything else I had tried. Let's hope it's a one-off!
