I am not sure for where you guys live, but in Australia Microsoft has put out ads comparing a macbook air to a surface pro 3. This is also shown on their website.
However, I think the arguments the bring up and useless and invalid points.
Firstly, the Surface Pro 3 might be advertised as cheaper than the 11" macbook air, but the baseline Surface Pro 3 comes with an i3, while the base line macbook air comes with an i5. When you compare the Surface Pro 3 with an i5's price to the baseline macbook air with an i5, the Macbook air comes in at $899, while the Surface Pro 3 comes in at $999.
Secondly, Microsoft bring up the argument of not being able to use a pen or touchscreen on the MacBook Air. They re-enforce this by saying it is more productive for photo editing and creating. This argument is invalid, because if you were editing photos or creating them, you would want a much more powerful computer. Even if you did have one of these, you would most likely be sitting at a desk or workstation, not on the go. Thus proving that the pen and touchscreen is irrelevant. Also, a professional electronic sketch pad can be purchased for around $50. This would be still cheaper than the Surface Pro 3 overall, and provide a much more accurate and better experience.
Thirdly, Microsoft brings up the point of having two cameras on either side compared to one. If you wanted this, a cheap webcam can be picked up for around $10.
Fourthly, Microsoft advertises the Surface Pro 3 to have 9 hours battery life. Apple also advertises this for the 11" model of the Macbook Air. However, the SurfacePro 3 has 9 hours of WEB BROWSING, a low power consuming task. The Macbook Air has 9 hours of VIDEO WATCHING, a high power consuming task. Therefore, the Macbook Air has a much longer battery life.
Finally, the Macbook Air has an overall much better build quality. It is more sturdy and has better quality equipment, including speakers and overall frame. It also looks much better.
Therefore, for these reasons above and more, the Surface Pro 3 is much worse than the MacBookAir, in just about every way.
Thanks for reading (if you bothered 😛)
