So I have a Macbook Pro (not mine) that I took to the Genius Bar and they said the motherboard faced some water corrosion damage, the initial problem was that the laptop was not giving a display but you could here the laptop actually working (log-in sounds etc).

So I decided to take a look myself. Inside I found the corrosion on the mobo as told so I decided that this could be cleaned, do you think this will fix the problem, and how should I clean the corrosion?

Solution
Look online for some contact cleaner Its what we use on circuit boards at work. Use it and a stiff nylon brush. What you may find is that the corosion has completed a circuit between 2 or more components which should not be shorted. Not saying this will fix it all but at least you can see whats going on. make sure you give the board plenty of time to dry out after cleaning most contact cleaner evaporates quickly but always give it a little time.
Corrosion A would seem to be in the display panel driver circuitry area.

I would recommend that you try cleaning using 90% or higher alcohol solution and a soft nylon brush to see if it will remove most of the green copper oxide. Make sure that the alcohol has completely evaporated/dried before trying to power up.

Solution
I bought a can of contact cleaner from MicroCenter took some qtips and cleaned out the motherboard. The macbook surprisingly turned on only for me to find out that the hard drive was corrupted, after a lot of struggle in osx's disk manager I figured the only option left was to completely wipe the drive and reinstall the os.

I did just that and the laptops working perfectly.

Almost a month prior (the laptops been dead for a long time) I visited the apple store genius bar on fifth avenue and they were asking $700 for repairs!

Now the macbook is working like new and I couldn't have done it without you guys! I saved 700 bucks! :)

Make sure if you want to take it apart again coat the place you cleaned with some sort of non conductive sealer this will stop it from happening again easiest thing i can think of thats cheap is clear nail polish there are some conformal coatings out there but they are a pain to work with and hard to get like humiseal.
Glad its working for you though.

Ok I'll see to it, thanks for all the help :)
