I press the on button Then the screen goes "mac white" and the start up sound but then the screen just goes black tried restarting etc It has turned on properly a couple of times but mostly it just crashes (or whatever it is its doing)
Restart holding the Option key.
Boot to recovery.
Run Disk Utility.
Should be an option to repair permissions and repaid disk or something like that.
Run both and restart.
If that doesn't work do the same and re-install/upgrade OSX.
If that doesn't work it's likely a bad hdd/ssd.

Turn off your macbook by pressing (control+option+shift+power button) and that will automatically turn off the macbook. Then boot the macbook once you hear sound hold (command+option+P+R) for about 30 seconds that'll reset some stuff.
If it doesn't work hold a torch to ya macbook if you see startup screen replace the backlight.
