the other day i was in the shower and was watching a video on my laptop. about 10 mins after getting out it black screened.
in a panic i took to the forums and did all of the key commands to reset something and all it did was make a yellow screen flash on the laptop. i also removed and put the battery back in.

i have just now plugged the laptop into my tv via a display port adapter and its fully working with screen mirroring just not on the laptop screen itself.also the charger light doesn't appear just in case that detail helps. also the keyboard back light works the apple logo on the back glows fine and the speakers work too.

im wondering if this is a problem that can be solved easily by messing with software or is it an issue with he laptops hardware e.g a display cable.

the macbook is the early 2011 13 inch mbp with 4gb ram and i5 @2.3 and i have Yosemite any help would be great :)

Sounds like your screen died or is unplugged. pull it apart and check the cable that goes to the screen make sure it connected all the way. Well unplug it and plug it back in.. seen this get messed up when a laptop is dropped or bonked a bit worth a look.

when it boots i get a white or yellow screen, then the normal apple logo screen flashes for half a second then it goes black, but since it could display anything the actual panel looks fine.but what i did see was that the charger port circuit and the video cable are very close and they both have issues so i imagine im gonna need to take it to a shop to get the cable replaced since there was some sort of substance on or near them.
