[SOLVED] Macbook WSOD repair loop

I have a macbook OSX 10.9.5 (model a1502 emc 2678) that keeps giving me the white screen with the flashing "?" folder. I then get into the diagnostic tools and repair the disc and it runs fine then freezes up and after a manual reboot starts the process all over again. I usually work with Windows so this whole thing has me scratching my head. Any help is much appreciated.

That icon means essential files are damaged or missing.

Starting with the easiest:
-Boot to recovery and verify/repair permissions.
-Re-Install OSX
-Replace HDD
