Hey guys / gals -

I'm looking for advice and resources to use as I plan out a new home computer build.

Some Background: I've never built my own computer. I am coming off a early 2009 iMac that doesn't cut it and after seeing recent changes with adobe software and how poorly my 10k MacPro trashcan at work is not cutting it - i'm interested in building a machine for my freelance editing, as well as day-to-day use. I shoot and edit videos for a career ranging from 1080 to 4k, and up to 8K for VR video.

Primary Software: Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Davinci Resolve, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Cinema 4D, Kolor VR software. (I do more standard editing / compositing as opposed to VR - but high chance of a lot more VR in the future).

Budget: 800-2k - doesn't need to be the absolute best, but not entry level. Some midline perhaps as I am not full-time freelance ATM - money is a concern as I will also need new monitors and to buy OS etc.

How to build: - I saw a thread on here that looked like a good resource to that. What is the average time? If things get really complicated I can visit my brother who's build computers before and is an electronics technician but he's a short plane flight away.

Thanks for help in advance, and patience.

Just to get you started, you're going to need an i7-6700 or better CPU to support video editing. Definitely a 500GB to 1TB SSD for your OS/programs/current projects and a 2TB+ HDD for longer term storage. You'll need to check the programs you plan to use regarding GPU recommendations. I'm thinking a workstation grade GPU versus the gaming GPU's you typically see on this site.
