So, I was thinking about real-time rendering and what type of machine it would take to do something along those lines. I know I am just a beginner in animation, thus this is more a curiosity question more than anything. So my question is what type of machine would it take to do something like this. Thanks!

Are you talking about preview rendering like V-Ray or iRay? Or are you taking about final renders with fancy ray-tracing?

I think real-time final renders are out the question for another 10 years unless you have a few hundred thousand to spend on a server farm. The fastest single CPU (AMD 2990WX) completes Cinebnech (single frame) in about 10 seconds. Thats a $1800 CPU. Intels $10,000 isn't faster.

That said if GPU rendering is used, than realtime Ray-Tracing FINAL renders may be achieved with a few cards. But GPU rendering is for previews only since the images can have errors in them.
