Machine turns on but no display

Hi, all. I'm in need of help. As a preface, recently I discovered one of my RAM sticks was dead, so I ordered two new sticks and just planned to trash the two old ones since I was upping from 4GB to 8GB.

It's been very cold here and my apartment has been a static factory. So unfortunately, when I got my new RAM sticks in the mail, I accidentally shocked my PC when I was swapping out the sticks. I didn't touch any internal components; I shocked the side of my case.

Ever since then, when I turn on the machine, all of the fans come on, but there is no display. I do not hear any beeps from the motherboard either (I can't remember if I ever have before though, I think the speaker has been broken/disconnected). Also, I can not power off the machine using the power button once it's turned on, I have to turn off the PSU.

I've already reset the CMOS, but with no result. I've also already ruled out the GPU/monitors/display cables. An interesting thing I noticed on my motherboard is that there is an OC button that you can press to adjust the OC. This button lights up when you press it to adjust the OC and should turn off when you press it again to indicate that you are finished adjusting. When I turn on the machine, this button LED stays on continuously. This hints to me that there might be something awry with the motherboard.

I realize if the static shock has been the cause, then any one of the parts could have gotten fried. But if someone could point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this so I don't end up testing randomly for days with no results, that would be great.

Thanks!

Firstly forget the shock, the case can be used as a ground that's well known.

Ok so have you tried with just one of the sticks in? It sounds to me that one of the ram sticks might be faulty I've run into the same problem.

As for the OC light that comes on by default when there is power to the board, it'll only shut off once the CPU starts using that bios and tells it to turn off

And finally as for it not shutting down when the ram doesn't work there is a broken link between the CPU, the motherboard and the buttons, ie you need to hold it down for around 20 seconds and it will shut down

So can you check each ram stick individually and make sure they both work and let me know what happens

Thanks for your reply, wehler. I tested each one of the new RAM sticks individually and also tried putting the old stick that still worked back in there. I tested them in different slots as well. Unfortunately, no results.

Also, in regards to the power button, I tried holding it down for a full minute but I still have to switch off the PSU to shut down the machine.

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hmmm this is an interesting one, my best advice for you would be get in contact with your local computer store and talk to them, chances are they'll be able to test your system and be able to tell you what's up

Just thought I would provide an update to this problem in case there are any more opinions.

I went out and bought a power supply tester this week and everything seems to be working well with the PSU. Does this indicate a motherboard or CPU problem?
