please help me. since i got new gtx 460 i thought i'd be able to play games smoothly without lags and i have but some games just dont work. i installed mafia 2 and at start it runs smoothly but after 2-3 minutes of gameplay it starts lagging extremely and when i open up task manager it says that cpu is used 100%. i tried some physx soultions, turning it off, lowering setings, reinstalling physx, updating latest drivers, installing few old ones but it still lags after 2-3 mins of gameplay. PLEASE HELP me i really want to play this game soothly!!!

My Specs are:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66Ghz 2.67Ghz
RAM: 6GB DDR3 (1x4Gb, 1x2GB)
GPU: Palit GTX 460 768MB
PSU: OCZ CoreXStream Tue500W 80+
MOBO: MSI G41M-SP20
OS: Windows 7 64Bit

when i played my gpu memory went to 327mb (MAX) and GPU load went up to @64 (MAX) GPU temperature didnt get over 57C (i copied these statistics from GPU-Z) but my cpu is going CRAZY on 100%. My gpu temp while im not gaming is 32-35 C when im gaming it goes up to 55-60C. i can play almost every game on high settings. im playing far cry 3 on ultra with DX11 without any lags or stutters very smoothly. Also i dont know how to overclock i tried once and my computer wouldnt stratup until i changed bios to defaults soooo..... this is it. what to do?

i put everything above in the topic and i dont think my mobo supports overclocking i dont really know.

my gpu usage while playing mafia 2 doesnt go over then 380MB i confirm that and my temperature doesnt go over 60C while gaming not only on mafia 2 but on any game. mafia 2 doesnt use more then 60% from my gpu when i play it but cpu is 100% no matter what settings i play on. so is there anything to do?

I don't think it's a PhysX problem because your GPU is only sitting at 60% usage. It's the game, which is relying upon the CPU and the CPU is not keeping up with your GPU. It's the game.

Are you running the latest Nvidia drivers? Is the game up to date?

im running 320 drivers because it's not beta and i dont know if game is up to date i couldnt find a way to check the game version. listen will Q9550 2.83Ghz be enough for this piece of shit game? its 2nd most powerful cpu for 775 socket in quad qores. the best quad qore cpu is Q9650 but i couldnt find it anywhere i really tried. so will Q9550 be enough?

Also: will my PSU CorexStream True 500W be enough for Q9550 and Palit GTX 460 768MB?

ok... i couldnt buy the q9550 because i couldnt get the money but there has got to be a way to solve this i mean come on...... i really want to play this game. i tried overclocking and i screwed up the pc wouldnt start until i did the cmos thingy. anyways there has gotta be a way to fix this performance issue. it appears periodically like every 5-6 minutes the game starts stuttering/lagging and the it gets smooth again. pleaseeee heeeelp!!!!

Try to work around with the Nvidia control panel settings. Turn on Adaptive VSync, turn off Transparency Supersampling, etc. Check the power management setting and put it at "Prefer Maximum Performance". Make sure that Multi-GPU setting is set for "Single Display Performance". Etc.

ok i teid what you told me but no change 4-5 minutes of gameplay starts stuttering for minute or two then gets smoother again and this is definitely not my cpu. it has got to be the game
