So, I've had this AlienWare 17 R3 laptop for a while now, but I have a big problem now. For some reason my main GPU, a 970m, decided to attach to my monitor, or my second display, not the laptops screen. This is bothering since I travel a lot, and I would like to play games outside, and I can't unless I have a terrible framerate on everything, when back when it worked it was perfect. It says that my display adapter is the microsoft basic display driver, not the 970m, but when I connect to the monitor, the monitor appears as 970m, I can't update my drivers from my laptop or open nvidia controll panel, unless I connect my monitor, please help.

Here is how you can do this:
a. Right click on an empty space on the desktop and click on Screen Resolution.
b. At the top, you will see your current main display with the Start Menu in the lower left corner.
NOTE: If you do not know which monitor is which, then click on the Identity button to display the number on the display to match them with.
c. At the top, click on the numbered display device (ex: monitor, projector or HDMI TV) that you want to make your main display to have its border highlighted.
d. Check the Make this my main display box, and click on OK to apply.
NOTE: You will notice that when you check this box, the Start Menu will now be in that numbered display.

This still makes the microsoft adapter be my gpu... anything else?
