Upgrading my Raid 5 server with new mobo and cpu. What type of hard drive should I pick for the OS? The raid arrays are regular WD 14TB ones; want to get an NVME for the main but not sure about it since they have a limited read/write cycle from what I know. The server headless and only used for video/audio streaming to my other PCs.

limited read/write cycle
In normal consumer use, that "limit" on any current SSD is so large as to not exist.

My current C drive, a 1TB 980 Pro, currently shows about 26TBW. In 2 years of mostly 24/7 operation.
That 26TBW is 4% of the warranty 600TBW.
So, about 2% per year. At this use rate, I'd hit that 600TBW sometime in the year 2320.

Now...for this use, the 'speed' of an NVMe is pretty irrelevant. The vast majority of your traffic will be to and from the HDDs anyway.

Lastly, the RAID 5. What, if anything, are you doing about an actual backup routine? Because a RAID is not that.

(edited to correct usage numbers, I was looking at the wrong drive)

Thank you; that solves my issue. Cloud back up as well (onedrive for data and backblaze for everything)
