Approximate Purchase Date: this week

Budget Range: $1800 is the ceiling. Before taxes, not including shipping. But hoping to ultimately spend less than that.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: professional development of 3D computer game, playing current-gen 3D games and VR games

Are you buying a monitor: No. Already have 3.

Parts to Upgrade: RAM (to 32GB), SSD (500GB or more), MB, CPU. PSU if needed.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes. Windows 10.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Alza.cz (in english) But you can use any major US eshop for prices info.

Location: Czechia. I will be buying the parts via local eshops.

Parts Preferences: none

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: Not currently or planned. Maybe if there is a major advantage.

Your Monitor Resolution: 2 x 1920x1080 and 1 x 1280x720

My current system:
MB: MSI B85-G41 PC Mate
CPU: Intel i5-4460 (3.2 GHz)
RAM: 16GB (2x8 DDR3 1600MHz CL11)
GPU: nVidia GTX 1060 Ti 6GB
Storage: 2 SATA2 and 2 SATA3 HDDs, about 7TB total.
Oculus Rift cv1 VR - ideally using 3 USB3 slots

In the new configuration I need:
  • 32GB RAM
  • reasonably fast SSD - at least 500 GB capacity
  • at least 2 USB2s and 4 USB3s. I currently do not use USB-C for anything, but it can't hurt for future
  • at least 4 SATA connectors on MB (can be 2 SATA2 and 2 SATA3) for current HDDs I want to keep
  • CPU mainly with high single-thread performance. I am mainly using "single-thread" software. I do not use any software that utilizes more than 4 threads, so any CPU threads / cores above that will be wasted.
Why Are You Upgrading:
I am a game developer currently under long-term contract and my current system is both getting too slow and starting to fail meeting HW requirements for gamedev software I need to use.
I need to upgrade RAM to at least 32GB and add SSD to the system.
My current MB does not have a nVME driver/port, so I have to upgrade that for SSD and I thought I'll do major CPU upgrade with it if it makes sense with today options.
I also play 3D games and VR games on the same machine.

I am not necessarily looking for spending the whole budget. Only if there are any good value for money options.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you very much.
R.

Thank you very much Why_Me !

Do I understand it right that the difference between the 2 MBs is that the more expensive one has higher speed USB 3s and more of them ?

Just out of curiosity, what is with a lot of higher tier CPUs having so low base clockspeeds lately ?

The H570 chipset has 20 PCIe lanes vs 12 PCIe lanes for the B560 chipset which gives the H570 more bandwidth allowing it to use a higher grade audio codec (Realtek 1200) as an example. CPU's these days are more efficient allowing them lower clock speeds. Both of those Asus boards allow you to overclock that cpu by turning off the power limits in the bios. It keeps the cpu in turbo boost mode longer.
