I want to build a pc that is fast. I'm not too fussed about gaming I just want a pc with a fast boot up, fast running and no lag. Im going to get 8gb of ram, i5 4690 and use its intergrated graphics. I'm also going to get a ssd for windows. Is there anything else that will make it quicker or give it fast internet ect.?
Thanks

Yeah I don't know what the hell this guy is talking about, an i5-4690k and it's onboard graphics are probably overkill already. My 3570k streams 4k@24hz over HDMI on a z77 chipset with no issues.

An SM951 is the epitome of consumer SSD performance and is the fastest boot drive if you want low boot times, but with a 4690k and at least an 850 EVO or MX200 or other high performing x2/SATAIII drive you're only going to see differences in benchmarks, i.e., you probably won't notice anything to the naked eye.

If you don't do any video editing, graphic editing, MATLAB, AutoCAD, etc., and you only use your computer for...

If you don't do any video editing, graphic editing, MATLAB, AutoCAD, etc., and you only use your computer for productivity (web browsing, multimedia, word processing, etc.) all you should be worried about is part fidelity, longevity, and efficiency. To a lesser extent heat.

I would actually recommend an i3-4170 in this scenario as it only uses 54 watts and is a much more stable solution. Use quality RAM kits, RAM is the most likely to fail especially on an Intel 9 series.

This is an incredibly good MOBO, especially for the price. It will offer Hi-Fi sound that beats a lot of dedicated sound cards, and network drivers normally only offered at a premium. On top of that it has a really high quality and efficient design with quality parts, it's the most efficient Z97 m-ATX board by far.

first off what are you going to use the pc for. if your goingto use it for video editing and streaming then an i5 is better then the i3., if your using it for word and web then an p line of the haswell or skylake will do you fine. the newer skylake mb have m2 sata ports that are fster then the 6g sata drives. also there are the newer 4x pci drives. also be care full vendors are now trying to clear out the old haswell and brodwell cpu and mb for the newer skylake. the skylake mb use 1151 pins so you cant use haswell in a skylake mb. myself i would go with skylake so you could upgrade the cpu latter on if need be.
