Making a Game Server

I have been thinking about making my own rust server. I dont really feel like paying 20-40 bucks a month for a server so I guess i can run it myself. Though I was thinking, if you need my IP to connect, can't some determined teen decide to DDoS me and think hes the coolest kid ever? Is there any way to to protect myself from those types of things, or maybe even get something that allows me to use a custom IP? Thanksss

Yes, that is exactly the problem with hosting your own game server. on a residential account.
And 'that kid' WILL appear.

There is no "custom IP address". Public is public.
