Making a living streaming on Twitch?

Can you make a living just streaming on Twitch?

For example, there is this ex Tech YouTuber who only streams on Twitch 2 to maybe 3 times a week for a few hours, otherwise they just eat and sleep. I'm not going into names, but they only have 10-12 people following them on their Twitch streams. The topics he talks about are sometimes tech related but they can also go on about politics and other garbage that comes out of their mouth. This person seems to have a somewhat normal living like alot of us do. Is the ebegging really that good or does Twitch somehow pay good money? If this is the case, how do I get on this gravy train?

If he only has 10-12 followers, he has another job or other income.

There is no gravy train.

He doesn't have another job. He got laid off 4-5 years ago from big tech company. Could he still be getting revenue from his old YouTube videos even though he doesn't create them anymore? I just don't understand how this guy makes such a good living?

There are a lot of possibilities, but since nobody here but you has any idea who you're talking about, it's hard to venture a guess. He could come from money or have a partner whose wealthy, or he could do something else and not say what it is, or he could be living off savings from his job. There are a lot of possibilities.

If they're only streaming, say, 7 hours a week, I would guess they do more than simply eat and sleep 23 hours a day.

But one of them is not earning money from Twitch streaming. You basically have to have thousands and thousands of viewers -- not just followers -- a night to just make a living off Twitch.

He doesn’t do anything else…..I’ve asked him; and he has no other job and his wife doesn’t work. He wasn’t born into money either. That’s what gets me, how does he get by? A few months ago he had a hot tub installed, so he can’t be hurting.

In terms of him just eating and sleeping, that’s all he basically does along with his twitch streaming 2-3 times a week.
 
Well, money is not from Twitch streaming if he has a dozen people watching him. And if he says it is, he's lying.

Otherwise, I'm not sure how any of us can be expected to guess. I have no idea who this guy is. I might as well ask you what color shirt my neighbor wore today.

Life doesn't work like that. Neither does Twitch.

Big severance from being laid off.
Savings.
Dead rich uncle.
He's lying.

Any or all of the above.

Well, I don’t know what else to say other than giving out the guys name/handle. maybe he is living off severance from his last job. Who knows.

I agree, life doesn’t work that way. It just makes me wonder where his money comes from.

I will probably never find out the source of his funds. Maybe he is on welfare?
