Hi all,

I'm making a new computer, and I just wanted to see what others thought of the setup in terms of whether or not there are incompatible parts (they should all be good) or if there are parts in there that are just stupid. Please give me input, and I'm welcome to criticism, as I'm just a beginner!

The components are here:

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=7152114

decided this was the best way to do it, since they had all the parts, and they were giving deals and stuff.

Also, This will be in an Antec Nine Hundred case, with an Antec Earthwatts 650 powersupply, both from directron below:

Power supply: http://www.directron.com/ea650.html
Case: http://www.directron.com/ninehundred.html#caption

*** I don't know much about fans and cooling, so please, if you think it might need it, let me know

Thanks a bunch :bounce:

I didn't realize that I had to have the same RAM brands... I can just as easily go all Corsair... I just thought for Vista 64-Bit, 6 gigs would be enough for ANYTHING i decide to use it for, and I didn't want to not have enough...

I will be using the computer for :

- Work, i.e. writing papers, doing research, etc. etc. blah boring blah
- Media entertainment
- Music Recording/Editing/Rendering (Probably where the bulk of my use is going to lie)
- Video Gaming (but not intense, hence the cheaper mobo/video card setup)

Also, I figured, why not take advantage of the sale that on Corsair memory, so getting 4 sticks of 2GB ram for 100 bones seemed like a no brainer to me... but I heard that 4 sticks causes instability?

Would there be any reason that the computer would *need* more than 4GB? would it be stupid to put in 1 more stick to make it 6GB? I was using other 'top of the line' companies as a base, and for the Athlon, one of the better models for HP had 6GB of DDR2 Ram, so I figured, why not use that as a model

Thanks for all your help!

Samsung ODD are made by Toshiba and are of questionable quality. I had to RMA 4x this year (because they would eject discs still spinning every so often). The drives had the latest firmware prior to return. I started a forum thread on THG to raise awareness of Samsung ODD reliability problems:

The ATI 3450 may be a new(ish) graphics but bar media acceleration it will probably only play DX 7.0 games with decent FPS!!

Hows abouty the (very) new ATI 4670 GPU which is not too expensive and packs a much bigger punch for the money:

It is virtually designed for "weekend gamers" like yourself!! It's also very light on the electricity and doesn't need a PCIe power connector!! :sol:
