Making a silent case any advice? :)

Hey

I wanto make a really quiet system.

This is my sytem currently:

CPU: 3570k
CPU Cooler: EK-Kit L240
MB: P8Z77-V Deluxe
Memory: G.skill TridentX 2400 8GB
Storage: SSD/HDD
GPU: Gigabyte GV-N670OC-2GD
Case: Corsair 650D
Fans: Noiseblocker BlackSilent XL-2, 120mm (5 of these)
PSU: XFX Pro 850W

I got the Noiseblocker fans on 50% fan speed but still make quite some noise.

I wanto upgrade my system to this:

CPU: 3570k
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 (2013 edition)
MB: P8Z77-V Deluxe
Memory: G.skill TridentX 2400 8GB
Storage: SSD/HDD
GPU: Gigabyte GV-N670OC-2GD
Case: Fractal Design Define R4
Fans: Noctua NF-S12A ULN x1, NF-F12 PWM x1, NF-P12 x2.
PSU: XFX Pro 850W

I wanto change my watercooling loop to a H60 becouse i think that is still one of the most quiet solutions?

And i'm sort of lazy i hate cleaning my watercooling :/ lol so H60 is close to 0 maintenance and the H100i 3770k @1.3V is only 4 C difference so better cost performance and also 1 less fan wich is another 20 euro's less and less noise to! win win i would think

In the future when the ssd's are less expensive or i have to much money i will replace my hdd for ssd's, but it will have to do for now.

For the GPU i'm actually pretty happy i have made a nice fan curve so its pretty quiet.

For the fans i'm planning on doing this:

Do you think it is worth the money for a more quiet system?
This setup will cost 250 euro's

I think i can sell my watercooling kit for not to bad, i got it on 1 july 2013 so its not that old.
The kit cost me 250 euro's so if i could sell it for like 150 it would only cost me 100 euro's to build this system.

Any advice would you change something?
Are the noctua fans really worth the money?😛

Your case is fine, your fan selection is the problem. Change the front and top to a quality 200mm and you will have less fans, and plenty of airflow. The smaller the fan, generally the louder you will get. I wouldn't get an H60, as it isn't a very good cooler. Many air coolers beat that.

So you think i shouldn't replace my 650D for Fractal Design Define R4 silent case?

And just go with 2x 200mm Noctua fans?

Well i got 5x noisblocker fans now it's on 50% though but makes some noise 😛

I got the EK-Kit L240 for my CPU cooler at the moment.
I wanted to replace that with H60, it only has 120mm rad with one fan shouldn't make to much noise?

What is a better and more quiet cooler then?
Don't feel like going custom loop either.

Problem is, the fan on the H60 will probably have to run faster to keep the CPU cool enough, as the H60 is not a very good cooler. You want quiet cooling, switch to an Noctua air cooler.

Noctua NH-D15.

It is 2 to 3 DBA more quiet.

I knew about those coolers but i thought it made hell of a noise since it's appearance looks like a monster! 😛 haha

Yea cool looks epic and it runs cooler to.

I think i will replace my 650D anyway i have modified it quite a bit, i have cut holes in the bottom of the case to fit 240 rad.
So if you would look in the window u would just see 2 holes 😛

So then for the Fractal Design Define R4, i can go either 120mm or 140mm.

Not sure if it works like this but if i devide for example:
Noctua NF-S12A ULN 120mm 8.6 DBA / 800 RPM = 0.01075 DBA per 100 RPM for this fan 0.01075 DBA x 8 = 8.6 DBA
So it looks like it works 😛 my math is very bad haha

So then the most quiet fan is

Noctua NF-A14 ULN, 140mm-----------------47----------11.9--------1200-------/12-----------0.00991 x 8= 0.07928 DBA

I got a fan controller so that will be fine.

The H60 is easily the noisiest component of that build .


The case fans can be under volted to slow them and make them quieter , or alternatively disconnect a few of them

Or would u recommend another case, since i will be replacing it anyway.
I do want a silent case with padding and stuff, i had the corsair 550D and i did notice the difference clearly, but i gave it to my parents.

Hmm looks like i'm maybe in trouble witch space.

With the Noctua NH-D15 i have 5mm space between the side of the case and the cooler.
And i got Trident x i dont wanto get rid of the fins as the ram will run warmer, and even then it will not fit.
But i think i will be fine if i do the fans on the other side, it looks like the standard is to have the fans in push/push.
I will have to do it in a pull/pull configuration, maybe it will be like 2/3 C warmer but it looks like the only way?
I will have to check how much room i will have with the heatsink of the northbridge.
And the NH-D14 wont fit with Trident-x damn disappointing 🙁
