I plan to install Linux but I dont want to waste space on my drive. Can I make the "/home" small so I can use another ntfs partition from both Linux and Windows?

Solution

Oh, I misread your original question. IIRC, you can use a NTFS partition for linux, but it may not be stable. You'll also have to mount it manually inside of your terminal (which can cause issues for windows).

Ah, yes, okay. You'll need to create a live install/boot USB, then when installing, click "something else". You'll need to manually create your root, swap, and home. If you're unsure as to what this means, there are plenty of guides on the internet, such as this one: http://itsfoss.com/guide-install-linux-mint-16-dual-boot-windows/

I did everything except making a /home partition

No problem! I would also allocate a decent amount of space, but that's only because I work on hefty programs on my unix workspace. 8)
