Making my first build, suggestions? Helpful criticism? Also a doubt on the memory (ram)

Hey, so I'm building my first PC desktop, and one thing that I can't quite understand is the motherboard with the ram compatibility. I'm thinking of getting the MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard and I was wondering if its compatible with the Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-2933 Memory?
Me and my roommate are gonna build it for gaming and college work.
I know this section is just for memory, but do you guys know if this set-up could work? and am I exaggerating?

Thinking about putting an extra fan in there... I am still a noob, so input is welcome! 😀

Also, really want it future proof... and we are splitting the costs, so price doesn't seem like an issue...

No this board most likely support that ram, this motherboard supports, DDR3-1066/1333/1600/1866/2133/2200/2600/2800/3000 Mhz RAM

I think its REALLY overkill for gaming and college work, to be honest you will save much more money if you go with 1866 or around that area 8gb 2x4.

Unless you render, animate etc then go for 16/32gb of higher frequency ram.

Again unless you are rendering or animating for for something like a 780ti, even 780ti SLI as you will get much more performance, especially for your money.

If you have the room and budget then get an extra fan or two, just better airflow.

for the SSD go with a Samsung 840 Evo, they are much more reliable and in most cases r/w speeds are better. I would use the 840 Evo for all your SSDs although I would save my money and get a couple of WD blacks 1TB, much more storage for such a better price and with games it doesn't make much more of a difference. If you do go with the SSDs all the way go for the 840 Evo and put your games on the 1tb SSD not the 730 as games will fill your storage like crazy.

John, your choice of components is a bit newbish... sounds like you picking up the components based on 'expensive got to be better' and/or 'high rating review so it must be the best' and/or 'I want a very powerful machine no matter what it costs'. In sum, those components are not cost optimized at all (money/performance ratio is bad).

You dont need all that stuff... optical drive, who uses that anymore, car reader the same... fan controller also very optional.

And you need very important stuff, you dont have on your list. You need a monitor. I recommend a high quality 30in monitor. As soon as you get it you will laugh about people that say 21in is enough. Other thing, a very good keyboard and mouse, also not on your list and key components for a gamer. An headset also, for some games.

As soon as you add these to your components you have an good but expensive machine...
... slight changes can get you better ratio price/performance...
Bad choices are: RAM choice is too expensive, Storage choice is awful (cheap get 1 EVO for system, apps and games, and get 1 WD Red 4TB for daily full system backups), EVGA Titan Black also on a very bad price/performance... like suggested already Nvidia 780ti much better on such ratio.


Of course, all of that is assuming you money limited.

If money is no issue, then you can spend alot more for further performance.
You can setup 8xSamsung pro in Raid0 on a LSI card, and get 128GB of ram on a Supermicro board, for large ram drives loading games and applications instantly - like I do. And you can certainly get second titan for SLI. Other things you will want is UPS unit, and a quality DAC and sound system.

You'r PC seems to be a little unbalanced.You seem to be the ' MORE COSTLY THE BETTER ' type. That is wrong.You dont need 3 SSDs . You could simply go with a 128 or 256 gb ssd for the OS and another 1TB HDD 7200 rpm for storing games and other stuff you are not really going to need motre than that . If you feel You need more , better go eith a 128 GB SSD for OS and a 2tb HDD (7200 rpm or sata 6 GBps) , even the green or blue WD HDD is fine for other stuff .
Before talking about other things , I would like to know know what you are and what you primarily use our PC for . I Would like to know about your monitor
I would also like to know about your Budget.
