Greetings.

The title may be a little vague, because I have no idea how I'll explain my doubt.

I have a PC with Windows 10 Home and MS Office 360. Office is expiring on 15 Aug. Both are connected to my Microsoft account.

I'm planning to buy a laptop that has Windows 10 built in, with MS Office Student version. If I start the Laptop by linking my Microsoft account, what will happen exactly? I'll still have two copies of windows, right? Windows 10, Office 360 and Office student are linked to Microsoft account or a device?

Solution
I would think it should be fine to link the new office to account while old is still active, as they should have different version numbers and registration codes. Edu version has less programs than 365, you only get Word, Excel, Powerpoint & Onenote - I went into search thinking you would get more, not less.

Guess it doesn't matter if you never used the other parts.
Yes, you can have more than 1 windows licence linked to same email address, I know people with over 5 at least
win 10 can be linked to a device or an email address. I have no proof but I think its likely to have both linked to it, so MS knows what machine it is installed on and what email address is linked to that machine.

Originally when you upgraded to win 10, it was linked to the machine. Later when they updated Windows 10 in July last year they added the ability to link licence to an email address. How your 1st machine is linked depends on what it says in settings/update & security/activation under Activation. If its not linked to an email address it should say Windows is activated with a digital licence as that is what mine says. If you want to link it, look at first part of this: Reactivating win 10 after new hardware

The office versions are linked to an account, not a device

Thank You so much for the reply. And at the same time, apologies for my delay.

So both the devices will have my account linked. That's nice to hear. About the Office, my subscription is ending on 15 Aug. I don't intend to renew that. After it has ended, can I connect my new Student Office to my account? What will happen if I connect it before the old one ends?
