hi, today was using my Windows 7 pc.. it's a 6 year old pc with an old gpu, a GTX 460. This pc still has a purpose to me, because it's job is to run old games that don't run in Windows 10.

Geforce Experience notified me that an update to drivers is available.. the current driver installed is 372.90. Geforce Experience tells that 381.65 is available.. however, when try to download it.. Geforce Experience cannot connect to Nvidia.

by googling, I found 381.65 on nvidia's site. Now, downloading it.

https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/117261/en-us

when the download finishes, is it safe to run it. Or would it mess up my pc?

Since you are playing old games with that PC there is no reason for you to update the drivers. It is highly unlikely to have optimisations for your GPU or for the games you play.

I would not mess with an old working system unless the notes of the updated drivers specifically mention improvements to the games I play for the GPU I own.

@dotas1

thanks for the reminder. Actually, on the same day I created this thread, a tragedy happened to the 460 - lightning surge. I was never able to finish the download.

brought the pc to the shop, the technician who looked said the 460 is a goner. He tried "fixes" like brushing the underneath of the gpu with a brush, or only attaching one plug from the psu to it. No response, it's really went to gpu heaven. They did give me a gt 530 for free, which thankfully can still run the old games, eventhough it's a lot weaker than the 460.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. It's a pity...
You can always get something like a 730 or a 750 for cheap, used.

the salesgirl who gave me the 530 said they sometimes get stock on second hand 750 ti. And if they get one, they would sell it to me for 70 usd. Is a 750 ti the same strength, or is it better than a 460?

ok, info appreciated. Edited my post, it was actually a 750 ti they were offering me in case it becomes available.

there is also the option of buying a brand new 1030. But I plan to go for the 750 ti, since it's an older gpu that would probably be more compatible with the old games in this lga 775 windows 7 pc.
