Hi all, I was wondering if thhere was any program out there that can let me load up all the programs I want to run into memory and shut off my hard drive for protection. Say, data logging my car's ecu while on a long, bumpy ride where my laptop's running in the passenger seat.

On that note, would any other component be affected by movement/vibration?

Thanks all!

It would be tricky but... and you won't be able to do it to your main boot drive which means you can't achieve your purpose. 🙁

For non-system drives:

First you would have to have a lot of memory.
Second, you could use ASUS RamDrive for the in memory drive.
Third, you would go into 'device management' and disable the drive. I think/hope that disabling the drive would leave the heads in an unloaded/parked state.

Yes, the vibrations code pose problems with the hard drives. I don't know how much but there is a possibility.

If you really want a solution you might want to replace your HD with an SSD.

First off, moving a laptop with a mechanical disk drive whilst running can ruin the drive. It is the most common reason lappy hard drives fail.
I am sorta guessing you new that. But I dont have an answer except if you disconnect the drive while a system is running and dont ask it to access anything else on the drive it can be hours before it notices,.

days , even. I once had a drive fail in a disco running the lights. It was screaming and died. I told the girls not to touch the computer and everything was fine from friday till monday, The computer wouldnt start again untill the drive as replaced, and it cost a packet to get that program re installed.
