Hello Friends

My uncle has a Dell - XPS 8700 in perfect conditions. It is a PC/Desktop

According with the official specs, about the RAM on page 02 exists:

Connectors: four internally-accessible DDR3L DIMM sockets
Type: unbuffered, Non-ECC, quad‑channel DDR3
Speed: up to 1600 MHz
Capacities: 4 GB and 8 GB
Configurations supported: 4 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB, 16 GB, 24 GB and 32 GB
Minimum: 4 GB
Maximum: 32 GB

According with some research if a MOBO asks for DDR3 can be inserted DDRL3 in peace but not in the inverse.
Therefore, for this PC Desktop is mandatory buy a DDR3L type (according with the blue bold text).
He has the intention to upgrade up to 32GB. The MOBO has 4 slots, therefore 4 x 8GB

I did do a research on Amazon. Was a surprise that does not exist DDR3L available by Kingston, Corsair and Crucial. They only offer DDR3.

Exists other manufactures shown in the results that offer DDR3L.

Pls - according with your experience what is your best recommendation?

Buy two pack of these and Uncle will be good.

I have did so may of these Dells from the XPS 8100 , XPS 8300, XPS 8500, XPS 8700 and that memory always works.

Also just some info if some day his XPS ever won't boot and you get 4 beeps. These Dells get stupid sometimes.

The fix is to pull all memory and put 1 stick in at a time start closest to CPU, Boot get into windows shut down Next stick right next to first boot get to windows than shut down than repeat for third and forth same steps.

And one last bit of info these Dells don't play nice with AMD GPU's or at least I have tested all the way up to the RX 580 black screen. Put Nvidia in and boots right up. But I would not put anything higher than a Nvidia 2000 card in it.

Thanks for the reply

Huge Thanks for the link and the confirmation of that RAM model - is very important know that works based in your own experience

Just being curious: that situation could happened because your suggested RAM on Amazon is DDR3 and not DDR3L as requested by Dell? I am not on expert on hardware. So it is my first thought.

Pls could you explain me how the Mobo can accept a DDR3 in peace?

Like I wrote in the original post, according with the web a Mobo that request a DDR3 can accept in peace a DDR3L
but in this case the Mobo requests a DDR3L and your linkis based on DDR3 ... Can the extra amount of voltage harm the PC?

Thank You

Pls could you explain me how the Mobo can accept a DDR3 in peace?
DDR3L is physically the same DDR3. Difference is - it can operate at lower voltages.
DDR3 standard voltage is 1.5V
DDR3L standard voltage is 1.35V.

So you can install DDR3 regular and set DDR voltage 1.35V.
It's the same as, if you had DDR3L installed.
DDR3 may not be stable at lover voltage though. It may be necessary to reduce DRAM frequency also.

According with my understanding DDR3L is dual voltage, it can work with 1.35 and 1.5 in peace.

So you can install DDR3 regular and set DDR voltage 1.35V.

Thanks for the reply ... my uncle does not have experience about hardware - I mean, he wants put the RAM and use them in peace. No more settings to accomplish. Is it possible with your suggested RAM through Amazon? I don't live in the same country with him.
