News Massive Price Drop — RX 6800 XT Now Only $467: Real Deals

clearly you didn't bother to do the math.

" now $467 at Newegg (was $579)"

that's actually about a 20% price drop. it was $579 and on sale for $519 (about a 10% price drop to start with) and then you get ANOTHER 10% off of that price to get it to $467.

i'd say a 20% drop is worthy of some superlatives. :)

ASRock RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming OC: now $467 at Newegg (was $579)
No it wasn't, it was $539.99
2TB Solidigm P41 Plus PCIe 4.0 SSD: now $74 at Newegg (was $169)
No it wasn't, it was : $89.99.
2TB Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD: now $129 at Amazon (was $289)
Again, no it wasn't, it was $139.99, it hasn't been over $200 this year and was $119.99 on May 15th.

If you're going to advertise "was" prices, at least use the "was" prices as displayed on the webpage at the time of deal.

Amazon got into big trouble for displaying massive "was" or "retail price" figures instead of the actual prices, think it's time TH does the same before you, at the least, lose all credibility for these articles, especially with Prime Day coming up.

the basis of sales in stores has always been an inflated base price you could then discount to what is actually was last week.

why would that type stuff stop now that it's online?

it's not exactly hard to check up on such things in the online shops since many of the larger sites are indexed and prices charted over time. pcpartpicker is good for such info along with a few other places.

obviously the discount is overstated for pretty much all of these sales. the price drop is real for the most part, just not as big as they'd like you to believe.

Don't forget about the other basis of sales (which a couple of chains are facing big lawsuits right now over) in which during "Buy 1 Get 1" sales, the prices are increased by 50-100%.
