I'm not sure they underestimated demands so much as they were unable to get the yields they wanted. Better to get the bugs out of the way with the 4770 instead of the 5870 though..

HMMMM... Currently have a 8800GT...think I should bite and buy one of those 4870's for around $143? That slick deals changed it to $143... Still I do have the cash laying around and $143 aint bad at all. Or should I wait for it to get even lower (if it ever does)

Wait...just found another 4870 512 for $124... I guess they want to really get rid of these?

Go there and add to cart then apply this code SIZZLE15 it will take 15 off making it 127 shipped for a nice 1gig card. I'm buying....it's to tempting to passup. I'll hold onto to this card until second gen dx11 cards are released.

So, while i know i should probably not be lazy and just start a new thread, i am in fact lazy.

If i currently have a 9600gt and wish to replace it with the 4870 would that...

1: Be a decent upgrade? (the 9600gt would not go to waste, it would go to a friend to replace her 9400gt)

and

2: ...would all i have to do is remove the Nvidia drivers prior to physically changing the card?

~This is on windows XP. AMD 5600+ @ 3.2, 4gig geil, RW 550w psu

also, at the risk of sounding like an idiot again, helloworld_98, i couldn't understand your wording... is powercolor a decent brand or no?

Yeah i was going to do that when i get home =P

if the 4870 won't work the 4850's are still a decent upgrade for a 9600.

I know it's the RW 500, though i don't know if it's the SLI or not. *shrug*

I just went newegg and noticed this, in 3 days 2 1gb 4870's will be arriving at my house Muhahahaha!!!!

Im about to jump on this these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131148

I dont wanna get powercolor, but that heatsink looks like it would be awesome if i removed the shroud and let my 260cfm side panel (4X140mm fans :) ) cool it....

I trust xfx as a brand more, and totally would like to only spend 127$, but that 1gb 4870 uses a stock cooler, which wont benefit from the tornado that is my case. (also i would much rather buy from neweg than "super biz" :p )

Any quick advice before i pull ze trigga?

Good thing is, is that the card comes with adapters (2 molex to 1 PCI-E). For a very vague ballbark, 500Wish should be a near minimum for a 4870 build. There are however PSU with less than 500W peak that have juicy 12V rails so its just a ballpark.

lol looks like some are selling out... oh well...

hey bildo, i've heard that if you use the 2 molex to a pci-e it is good for short term but not for long term, is this true?
