Hey, folks,

Just built a PC with the following specs
Gigabyte B650 Pro AX
Ryzen 7800X3D
T-Force Delta DDR5 5600 Ram, 32 GB
Deepcool AG500 BK CPU Cooler
Asus TUF Gaming RTX 4090 OC GPU
Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1200w ATX 3.0 PSU

The nightmare has been the 4090. It's properly seated, and appears to be fully connected to the motherboard--but it has never shown me anything but a black screen.

I've tried it with four different connectors, HDMI, VGA, and Displayport, but no go.

Attempts to install drivers through the motherboard's video (which works fine, by the way), fail, with a message telling me that there is no Nvidia GPU in the computer. LIkewise with trying to install and use GeForce Experience to install the drivers.

It looks like it should be working, but a black screen is all I've gotten with every attempt to plug it in.

Making changes in the BIOS that might help haven't done a thing.

I'm about ready to despair of getting this thing going.

Any suggestions that might either get these drivers loaded and get the GPU running--or allow me to declare this thing dead, so I can start the return process--would be greatly appreciated.

I'd love to find out that I've left out something simple, feel like an idiot, and get my rig game-ready at last.

I recall an older thread involving a Zotac 4090 that was having trouble POSTing(I think). Turned out that the adapter supplied with the gpu was a lemon.
Try replacing that, or go ahead and RMA the gpu?

Have you properly inserted the 12VHPWR power connector to the GPU, PCIe 12+4pin connector ?

Does your Windows OS load in the background when the GPU is installed ? I know you get a black screen but is the system running with the GPU installed ?

Also, I presume you cannot access BIOS settings with the GPU installed since all you get is a Black screen ?

1. Double-checked, and the 12+4 is seated nice and tightly at both ends.

2. Yes. Turned on the computer with the HDMI plugged into the GPU, then turned off the screen and plugged the cord into the Mobo's HDMI port, and Windows did indeed fully load. This is so whether the GPU is plugged into the computer or not. The GPU's nice rainbow lights shine, and the red light indicating that it's connected to the motherboard lights up, but the GPU's fans don't spin at all, and, of course, I get nothing but a black screen when I plug into either the HDMI or DP ports.

3. I can access the BIOS when the Monitor cord is plugged into the Motherboard's HDMI, but if the cord is plugged into any of the GPU's ports, I'm out of luck.

Good news for me... I was able to get hold of a friend's older PSU, and hook it up.

Turns out my shiny, new Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1200w wasn't very shiny at all... or very tough.

It'll make it back to Amazon by the skin of my teeth.
