Matching big monitor and video cards

I have a Dell 3007WFP 30-inch UltraSharp Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor 2560 x 1600 being driven by a Nvidia Quadro FX 3500 (80w) card, plus I have a Dell Dimension 8400 w/ 350w power supply.

Can I safely run the Quadro FX 3500 in the 8400? Is there a quieter, cooler modern graphics card that would run the Dell 30" in the 8400?

I have two 2560 x 1600 monitors.
I have run them both on a XFX 7600gs which had two dual link dvi outputs., and one on a 3450. It does not take much to run such a monitor when used for relatively static stuff like e-mail and browsing web pages.

Gaming is another thing entirely.

Something like a GeForce 210 should do the job.

Since you already have the quadro, it should run ok on a 350w psu. It is only the cards that need an aux 6 pin pci-e power connector that need more than 300 watts.

Actually I think the FX3500 does need the 6 pin connector:

So does the mean I need a bigger power supply?

A 6 pin connector provides an extra 75 w in addition to what the pci-e slot provides. That does not mean that all of it will be needed.
If you already have the card, I see no harm in trying it.
