Purchased a Matrox C680 PCIe 3.0 card as an upgrade but my mobo (Intel DP67BG) only has a PCIe 2.0 slot.

On startup, the boot screen is visible, and I can get into the BIOS, etc. but after that the screen shows a 0_ in the lower right corner, which I believe is coming from the motherboard.

Any idea if I can make this work?

Thanks in advance.

I'm on the system using the old card right now, so yes, the system runs fine without the C680 in it. I was wondering about power, but it does have a 750W supply.

BIOS is up to date. (Not that it means much, last update was in 2012).

As an experiment, I put both the old and new Matrox cards in the system at the same time. The system booted with the old card in as well, and used it for display. I was able to then install drivers for the new card (which was located by the driver software), but after removing the old card, I still have the same problem.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!

In my previous post, I mentioned that I had put both the old and new matrox display cards in the system at the same time. This allowed me to install the drivers for the new card. I removed the old card and still no joy. However, I noticed that the PCIe slot for the new card was only running in 8 bit mode, so I moved the new card to the full 16 bit slot and VOILA!, it worked.

Had some problems getting Matrox PowerDesk to set up my multi-monitor setup correctly, but that was eventually tracked down to having the drivers for the old card still installed. After uninstalling those, everything is as it should be, so I'm finally good to go.

It took three days of spare time to get it figured out, but at least I don't have to worry about upgrading the system to make use of the card.
