Matshita DVD RAM UJ-870pc Device problems

I have a sony vaio vgn-c140g. It has a Matshita DVDrw drive # uj870pc. I have burned many discs with it now it is only seeing it as a DVD/CD rom. it plays movies and music fine. It will not burn discs. Help!!!

What burning software are you using and it does not recognize it?
