hi. i need some help upgrading my pc to its maximum memory.
i ran crucial but seeing as how my pc was made in 2008 im highly skeptical that upgrading my ram would cost half as much as listed on crucial. does crucial cater to the uninformed?

please tell me what info you need from me or tell me what i need to do for you to know. also, a bit of topic, but should i upgrade my memory or go with a better video card first? which is more beneficial.

thanx shockeray. so the question is, would it be worth it performance wise? ive been reading online that for the same money i should first 1) upgrade my psu 2) upgrade my videocard, the last step would be to upgrade my memory. so, should i upgrade memory to max or upgrade psu/videocard first? which would give me the most performance wise? could you please identify what i need/an equivalent on ebay? seeing as how my pc is 5 years old i think i could save money by buying used.

That computer probably first came out about 8 years ago, so really I would get a new Motherboard and CPU, here is a $500 budget build I made for someone else...
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MtXH (note the lower price of modern RAM)
I'm assuming you wont need the Case, Hard Drive, or DVD player.

8 years ago man screw hp never again. but in all truth, its really not worth the bother upgrading is it? better to save up for a new pc which im doing. unfortunately, i didn't know about this site when i first bought my pc. i paid 1100 for it in 2008 did i get ripped of not that it really matters, but just wondering? i don't think it worth upgrading though.

really, all you're doing is changing out everything but the case, and power supply if you don't have to upgrade it, but I'm guessing you might have to. Depending on the how good of a computer you want, I'd look at that one I linked, or this one, it's my build...

if you had a little over 200 usd, what do you think i could buy that would give me a good performance boost? is a dual core i3 better then a q9450 quadcore because its more modern? i get about 80 usd every month after bills are paid, so, i would essentials be as you said slowly building a new pc from the old. so, currently, i have 200 usd, after the 200 usd is spent, in april, in may ill have another 80 usd to play with. given the current times, taken all this into account with technology advancement what is the best way i can spent my 200 usd?
