Tried lots of different mouse pads. By far the absolute best feeling and longest lasting ones are glass. Unlike the cloth ones, the glass needs to be dusted daily for best results, but outside that, it is far more consistent and precise.

Aluminum ones degrade and get scratched too easily. Once you scratch the coating of the aluminum there is no way to salvage it.
