Max overclock for E8400 E0 stepping

Anyone have any information on what level I could overclock my CPU. If I destroy it ... I will just buy a Q9550 and overclock that. I have a sunbeam core contact cooler with liberal thermal paste and currently at 3.83. I have been up to 3.9 but backed it down due to memory failing. I recently discovered my memory GSkill Pi Black DDR2 800 (stock voltage @ 1.8) can be upped to 2.1v safely. This could remove the failings from previous 4.0+ attempts. I have read many people can get to about 4.2 on E0 stepping but I wanted to ask the group their thoughts.

I went home and ran CPU-Z and learned I have C0 Stepping. I got to 3.9 and it seems stable. Will run prime 95 tonight to test stability.

Depends on your Temps,
You Could Reach Higher Clock Rates but with Watercooling.
Whats The Temp at 3.8ghz?

it was under 70 @ 3.9... the overall overclock gets very fickle above this point. Vcore at 1.31 i think. have to check.

Mine is running at 4.0 ghz on water vcore 1.31 Nb is set to 1.32. I pushed my memory to 1000 ghz. My temps are good at Idle 41 and full load 50. You Might want to go with water if you are pushing it to 4ghz

i got my C0 e8400 upto 4.6ghz with 1.6vcore but sold it and got a e8600 @ 4.8 with 1.47 😀

I know little to nothing about water cooling. I will do some research today and see about it. Can you transfer the cooling units across to newer platforms... Can they last for 5+ yr?

all you change with a good WC loop is the cpu block, you can easily upgrade the cooling when required, your only limited by ure budjet and imagination.

you dont always have to change the cpu block you can get a adapter bracket and save some money..
