I have installed my new asus 9600xt and their programs smart doctor as well as the newest catalyst drivers i could get from the Ati website, and well i try to use smart doctor to overclock my card and yet even if i only raise the number by 1 of either core clock or memory, or even if i lower them it says my card is not responding or just shuts my computer down. So is there a step i am missing or a better way to do this if anyone knows please let me know, and sorry for the grammer, tryin to do 4 things at once.

Have you just tried using the overdrive facility thats available in the control panel? I know it's not much but it's a start.

Also check with riva tuner or something similier to determine just what your current clock speeds are.

Thanks a ton to both of you, both of your answers helped a ton. I have used Rage 3d since the Asus Smart Doctor program does not work and oced my card to
Core:531
Memory:660

What is everyone elses average overclock levels, i don't want to raise it anymore until i know since i know asus doctor will rest my values if they don't work will rage 3d aswell?

lol the smart doctor doesn't work with my FX either. Had to use rage as well. Strange thing about this asus cards...
