So I read that you can sand the lid of your CPU and plate of your water cooler with like 2k sand paper and this will greatly improve the bond between your thermal paste and metal, which in turn cools it better. Is this actually worth it and does it really work?

Solution
Its not about the thermal paste and metal, basically some (if not most) processors are not entirely flat, the edges are typically raised. This means the heatsink/waterblock wont fully make contact in the middle.

The process is called "lapping" if you want to learn more.
It wont drastically change your temps, its a minor thing at best.
