Maximum of 1024x768 over DVI?

Any thoughts on why my monitor's max resolution is 1024x768 over DVI cable while it goes up to 1680×1050 on a VGA cable?

Monitor: http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-W2284F-lcd-monitor
GPU: GTX 970, drivers are up to date. (This also happened on my old GTX 460, so it's not due to GPU).

The cable is a single link DVI.

I know, I've read:

Single-link DVI employs a single 165 MHz transmitter that supports resolutions up to 1920 × 1200 at 60 Hz

Though for whatever reason, I can't change the resolution to anything higher than 1024x768, from windows.

Though for whatever reason, I can't change the resolution to anything higher than 1024x768, from windows.

uninstall nvidia drivers

download DDU , run it and clean nvidia driver leftovers

download and install latest nvidia drivers
