hi there

My question is: i am wanting to upgrade my m4400's ram to 16GB from 4GB

but on some sites it says the maximum capacity is 8GB. so there is no way i can upgrade it to 16gb?

also i looked for PC2 DDR 8GB Single RAM modules and i cannot find any.

is it because back then they did not have any PC2 DDR single 8GB RAM Modules?

can i use PC3?

any advice & thoughts are monumentally appreciated.

sincerely,

KK

My OS is 64 bit and it can take more than 4GB.
Im using linux Mint latest version with 64 bit,
So if OS is not an issue...can I use a PC3 8GB single module times 2=16gb?

Well, Crucial's memory configurator for the M4400 says that it can max out at 8GB (2x4GB) . . however, they only list up to a 2x2GB kit as being available.

DDR2/PC2 is your only choice. DDR3/PC3 won't work.

DDR3 is not backwards compatible with DDR2.

While both types of modules have similar numbers of pins, the notches in the PCB are in different locations. In other words, a DDR3 module cannot be placed in a DDR2 memory socket, and vice-versa.
