Maximum RAM support i7-870 + Intel DH55PJ motherboard

Hello,
I need to install 16GB of ram in this system (i7-870 + Intel DH55PJ).

In the specification page of i7-870 it says max ram support 16GB. In DH55PJ it says 8GB. But in both page it says "Max memory size refers to the maximum memory capacity supported by the processor.". So i think max support would be 16GB. I will have to buy the ram so i want to make sure first.

So will this system support 16gb ram?

Your motherboard only supports up to 8GB so that would be 4GB X 2. Maximum speed supported is 1333MHz. Oddly enough the board has solder points for another 2 DIMMs. must be a similar higher end board with all four.

In theory, since the memory controller is CPU based and not chipset based, yes, it should support 16Gb.
I'd be interested in the outcome on this one, for future reference.

If the motherboard supports up 8GB then i guess your maximun capacity is 8GB. The "Max memory size refers to the maximum memory capacity supported by the processor." i guess is there to remind you that if the cpu supports less, then the max memory won't be the 8GB of the motherboard.

So i am not getting any legit answer. Is there any one who have faced similar situation?

In the motherboard manual it is said 8GB total maximum memory. But as Petrossa said, memory controller is in CPU itself. Maybe it will work?

CPU itself supports 16GB but your board only supports 8GB. Your motherboard is limiting you if you're looking for 16GB.
