I have the M2NC51-AR (HematiteXL), which is an asus motherboard made exclusively for the HP s3020n. This pc is a slimline, supposely you could, as maximum, add a processor of 65W, but I believe this is because of the short of power (the power supply is 180W).

Does any of you know the M2NC51-AR (HematiteXL)'s maxmium TDP allowed?

PD: I have seen that HP SAYS that it supports a Phenom II X4, which makes me think that it can at least work with a TDP of 95W.

Thank you!

I could have sworn you asked the Tmax and not CPU TPD?! I'm getting too old and senile apparently.

As far as the supported CPU's, HP only says "AMD Phenom II Quad-Core" and from my experience that's way too vague. Knowing only AM2 and the CPU's vaguely listed, I can assume 95W TDP.

The 'real' problem with OEM MOBO's is both the TDP and CPUID contained in the BIOS - MUST BOTH be supported!

Therefore, the ONLY way to know is to get a list directly from HP. One Phenom II can work and another be dummied-down due to the lack of the CPUID info to properly run the CPU.

Well, jaquith, it ended up to be 65W as maximum :/.

I have right now a Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (2.0 ghz), would upgrading to an Athlon II X2 270 (3.4 ghz) be a significant change? Worth it?

And thanks for the help!

EDIT: Well, since this is going beyond the scope of the original post, I will create another thread, thanks for all the help!

PassMark:
1047 = Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (2.0 ghz)
2019 = Athlon II X2 270 (3.4 ghz)

5192 = AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
4508 = AMD Phenom II X4 975

ref - http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html ; there's other CPU lists, this is the High-End

IMO - I'd look at replacing both the MOBO, probably only a mATX will fit, and CPU.

Examples:
CPU:
$110 - {3630 PM} AMD Phenom II X4 945 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103809
$170 - {6054 PM} AMD Phenom II X6 1090T - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103849

MOBO:
$83 - GA-880GMA-USB3 AM3+ - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128490
