So I started a new build today and i have encountered a problem. I installed the asus MIVH with the 4770k and crucial ballistix sport 8gb. I used my SSD from my privious build which is the OCZ agility 2 and when i installed windows 7 it would flash a quick BSOD and restart. after the restart it would boot windows. now randomly when i restart it will give me a windows boot error or just load my bios. when i check in the bios for my drives it will not show my SSD. Probably a dumb question but its the SSD going bad, Right? Any input? thanks guys

Solution
The OCZ agility I believe runs off the Sandforce 12xx controller, this was from raja@asus, the Asus rep here on the forums

"The SF1200 controller is non-compliant with SATA spec. Intel tightened up signal tolerance on Z87, so the drive will not detect at all times. There is no long-term fix for this, you will need to use a compliant SSD. The newer SSDs are fine"

Update: I spoke with asus about this issue and they came to the conclusion that the motherboard and ssd's had a compatibility issue. They told me that since the agility 2's were sata 2.0 and the motherboard was sata 3.0 the motherboard wasn't always recognizing them because they were too slow lol. I think this may be a little BS they were feeding me. If this were the case I would think my WD caviar black 1tb would not be recognized either since it's many times slower. I picked up a Samsung 840 Evo 120gb and haven't had any problems with it. I also noticed that if I only had one agility 2 plugged in as a storage drive it was always recognized. Anyone have any other ideas?

Solution
I tried playing with some older SSDs on my Hero and couldn't get the OS to load, they were so-so as data drive, but decided I didn't really trust them on Haswell, also found the problem to occur w/ a couple of Rock mobos and same on GB so it does appear to be the Z87 chipset vs the SF12xx controllers. Hope this helps, it's a bummer 🙁 but better to know then have a crash and lose data

Yes I agree. I don't mind upgrading to newer ssd's. It would have been nice knowing that they weren't compatible going into the build to save myself multiple hours of troubleshooting and Windows installs lol. But at least I learned something new. Thank you for letting me know. :)
