Im thinking of going ryzen 2700x over i7-8700k for next build but how does the new x470 crosshair vii hero compare to the old z370 maximus x hero. I hear the wifi versions are just ok or bad even on the z370 which is supposed to be addressed on the new z370 rebrand aka z390 along with native usb 3.1 gen 2. I know gaming these specs make little to no difference at all but does the x470 already offer what the z390 has planned or will amd catch up at a later date?

This website should give you an idea as far as asus boards are concerned: https://www.asus.com/microsite/motherboard/AMD-X470/. But I would think SUPPORT of those would be native (e.g not all x470 boards come with Bluetooth, obviously enough).
Both are very strong boards. The crosshair VII sports AMD-exclusive features, such as StoreMI etc. etc., but honestly there isn't a MASSIVE difference between the two. I would not bother going for a particular board just because it has wifi. If you're REALLY worried about the on-board wifi, I'd go for the Taichi brand of both chipsets, they're excellent OC'ers and cost a bit less, not to mention they also have built-in wifi iirc.

not worried, simply asking of the usb 3.1 and wifi//bluetooth is native on the x470 like expected on the new intel z390 boards.
