Maxing out on Call of Duty World at War

Hey, im thinking on buying a Geforce 9800GTX+ 1GB

I have a Pentium 4 Processor 3.00 and 2.99ghz

I want to max all the settings out in COD:WAW at 1280x1024 without antialiasing

What framerate will i most likely have?

im an nvidia person.
But since you run it at a higher resolution and get a good fps, im assuming i'll get a better fps because im going at a lower resolutionr right?

Because right now im playing the game with everything on low at 640x480 with a geforce 6500...

You can max out cod5 waw with a 8800gts with like 100fps+, cod5 is a really non-graphically intensive game, its easy to run and very optimized so a budget card can go great on it especially at your resolution.

Okay zooloo as a serious answer and question , I dont think your machine is going to like any modern graphics card you put in it. and another question is how long have you had that machine and what else is in it?

I'd bet the P4 would limit the framerate. I don't know how you managed to pair a P4 and a 9800...those two pieces of technology are eons apart.

P4 is going to limit framerates; the only comparision was that my Pentium D (twice your P4) and 8600GT could handle COD4 at 35-40 FPS, but I never tested on a more powerful GPU. I'd figure mid-30's FPS for your setup, possibly lower, but not higher.

Also is it safe to put in a new gpu with this processor? Will something bad happen?

You could put on a new GPU but you would not gain anything. and if your going to get a new processor you will probably have to get a lot of new components. >.<

what are the full specs of this computer ram amount/speed, motherboard, psu (amps on 12v rail)

my guess is you are better off buying a new computer, unless your mobo supports cord2duo/quads (which i doubt) and this is why we need full specs

Theres a slim chance he can put a core2 in, but we need the mobo before we can see what his options are.

Your problem is the CPU is so weak, any GPU will be held back to a significant degree.
