I have a HP OMEN 870-224 with a Odense2-K SSID: 82F1 motherboard, Chipset H170.
Dual channel (one DIMM per channel) memory architecture.
Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets.
It came stock with 2x4GB PC4-17000 (DDR4-2133) the RAM upgrade spec's read as follows:
Supports the following:
PC4-17000 (DDR4-2133)
PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400) (with Pavilion Power chassis only)
Supports 4 GB and 8 GB UDIMMs
Supports up to 16 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers

My Questions are🙁1) what is the maximum amount of RAM that can be installed? (2) What is better Buffered or Unbuffered? (3) How can one tell the difference when purchasing Unbuffered RAM as opposed to Buffered?

You want unbuffered, AKA UDIMM, memory. Buffered memory is basically for servers (will often be ECC as well, but ECC and buffered are two different things). If your shopping typical consumer PC hardware stores/sites most RAM you find is going to unbuffered, but you can always check that it says UDIMM.
