Maxtor 1000gb hdd one touch is not working. It won't connect to Windows 7 and the light at the front won't stop flashing.

I have a 1000gb external Maxtor hdd and it won't work anymore. I turn it on and it won't connect to my computer which is Windows 7 & the light at the front won't stop flashing.

Is there anyway to stabilize the hdd to retrieve everything I have saved or is there another way?

There is no way you can retrieve any data from it if computer won't read it.

Try removing the actual hard drive from it's enclosure and install it either internally or in to a third-party enclosure.

I have a Maxtor Onetouch 4 750gb and am using Windows 7. When I boot up my PC I find that the drive's front light remains constantly on and the drive is unrecognised, but I have found a workaround for this. Unplug the USB cable and the power cable, plug the power cable back in first, then the USB cable and Windows 7 interrogates the freshly connected USB item and finds the drive, which now works perfectly.
